Plastic media blasting

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Fatstang, Jun 1, 2004.

  1. Is their anyone on board that has done plastic media blasting for body paint stripping? I would guess you would need to recycle the media. Special equipment required? Source of the media?

I bought a box of plastic media from TIP to use in my cabinet. It works great to strip paint. It will not take off Bondo or lead or rust. It doesn't leave a pattern in the metal like gl*** or sand. The metal looks like brand new when finshed.

I won't harm gl***, stainless or chrome. Only removes paint and not and metal. Leaves metal as new......OLDBEET

High pressure will kill it quick, try keeping the pressure at 40-50 psi. There is special exuip. designed just for plastic media, but I used it through both my homemade pressure pot blaster and a tip blaster with decent results. use a larger tip than what you would normally use to help it flow. Their are several different types and sizes of plastic media that will determine the tip size and pressure that work best, kind of like welding just adjust till you get the results that work for you.
