This was the first model I built and I still have it. I can't remember it having a driver, but then there's lots of things from 1956 I can't remember.
Are there any makrings on this car? The engine looks a bit like one I had as a kid. Similar only though, mine was a Caddy with a V-8. I've been trying for a long time to track down info on that Caddy for a long time.
Well, here are the two possibilities that I have. The Fix-it Convertible looked like a Cadillac, and had kind of a V8 that you could fill with water and stuff. Also, there was this Mercury station wagon that had an engine that looked a lot like the one in the hot rod. It was clear, and you could see the pistons bop around when it rolled.
Revoh, The engine in the Mercury looks a lot like the one I remember. I think the Caddy might be a bit smaller than what I remember. The bumpers and grille on the car I had were silver or dark gray, more like the Mercury. Is the Mercury and Ideal fix-it as well?
The Hot Rod with the clear motor is a Nosco, the Merc wagon is made by Marx, very cool stuff..........
Very cool pic! ...Ultra cool collection!! ...Awesome thread!!! Royal Shifter - No 'Big Drag', or is that it behind the "Lil Coffin"?? -Dave
Here is a little Lindberg flavor. We have one of those Saunders ones if I can find it....it's blue. I remember when my brothers and I were kids we would take Hot Wheels and sand them down to repaint and we would hammer the roofs down to make them appear chopped!! One specifically I remember is a Redline Lime Green Nomad...those were the days. B.M.
Now here are two kits that I had as a kid in the late 60's. They got lost, but over the years I was able to buy them at flea markets. One is named "The Texan", the other is called "Jersey-Bounce" The deal is these are not Made USA or Japan like it was common in the 60's. They where made by a small company in Leipzig what is former Eastern Germany. So never think they didn't have hot rods behind the iron curtain.
Thanks for this pic! I was just about to ask if anyone had knowledge regarding a little yellow deuce my mom found in the back lane a couple of years ago! The one I have is sporting the trimmed hood (like the pickup in the box art) and is missing the windshield and electric motor. The pins in the front had me wondering if it were some sort of track racer... Does anyone know if the electric motor was one of the 'you ***emble' types that Lindberg often included in their kits? (I have one of those). Oh, and the '69 B/A is white on my car (not the red as depicted on the box). A cool find in the dirt out back anyway.. -Dave
Hey Dave, The motor is one of the "You ***emble" type and the 69 B/A is white. What you don't see is still in the box and on the trees and the decal sheet is unused.
The toughest part of 'hoarding "toys like this is keeping them from getting destroyed by the the 4 grandkid .. Boys!!!! I love to see em play with on em but man ... They are as destructive as i was at that age.. Grandpa turns mean and grumpy real fast ...
this thread has caused me to go out and buy some plastic HOT RODs. got this one for $22.00 shipping included. it is in excellent condition.. better than the pics show. this is a pic from the auction.... then I found this one in the box. couldn't resist. (ebay photo from the ad) then I found this pair.. I really like the coupe... might sell the speedster when it arrives. I'll have to wait and see. these are 7.5" long there is some really cool stuff out there in plastic.
