The old members of the Platte Valley Customs Club and the Customettes are hosting a get-tigether September 11, 2010, at the Sedgwick Co. Fairgrounds. We the invite all former members and their families for a day of remembering the former drag machines, photos, club memorabilia, movies, and anything you care to bring. The Platte Valley Customs Club was started with 16 members who had a goal to build and run a drag strip. As it has turned out, it is the "Oldest Club-Owned Drag Strip" in the U.S. We met in June, 1950, and were called the "Ramrods". After a few name changes, the Platte Valley Custom Club was started in March 1952. Our club colors are kelly green and white. Our first drag race was held, August 22, 1953. at the Sedgwick Co. Fairgrounds, six more races were to follow at the track. The last race was threre in October 1955. On April 2, 1957, we met with the Julesburg Town Board and the Sedgwick Co, Comissioners and talked of building a drag strip. The first race on the new track was held on August 16 & 17th, 1958 with 210 entries. We hope to see you on September 11, 2010. at the Sedgwick County Fairgrounds in Julesburg Colorado, 10 a.m., where the first drag race was held in August of 1953. anyone wishing to come is invited to r.s.v.p, Platte ValleyCustom Club, P.O. box 89, Julesburg, CO. 80737. email: sellcar17@hotmail.com

Wow!! what a cool slice of history here. I was from Grand Island, Ne. and plenty of us participated in races with you dudes. Some of you raced at G.I. also. Love the old pix, looks like the famous Golden Rod coupe, hammered 33-34 out of Omaha in one of the pix. Thanx for the blast of nostalgia. ~Sololobo~
