i never get under a car unless it has good quality jack stands supporting it in a secure location. Such easily unavoidable losses are the worst. My thoughts go out

Ray was the last guy I expected to have this happen to. A die hard tradtional hotrodder with many hours under hot rods. His 32 five window fell on him and his wife did not find him in time. Tulsa area has lost not only one damn fine hotrodder, but just one of the really good guys. Everyone has a story of Ray going out of his way to help anyone needing help. I expect many others will post here, and they will all be as heartbroken as I am. Joe

Clint Ring called me a little while ago and gave me the news...I'm devastated.

Yes, I knew Ray Helm, and I can't believe he's gone in a tragic accident that could have been avoided by jackstands...it doesn't make sense...I'm feeling for his wife that found him...damn...

So sorry to hear this. I didn't know Ray but I still find it very sad that another car guy has left us, especially under such tragic circumstances. My condolences to his wife, family and friends. RIP Ray.

Just a quick question for thought. Did the car fall as he was going under to install jack stands. Hyd jacks can loose pressure fast. After reading this post I will place a stand under the frame before going to the axel with stands.

Prayers going out for the family.

I know I've been tempted to jack up a car "just for a second" and not put jackstands under it.

  25. What a shame and loss! I almost lost a buddy back in 1976 when his car fell on him, good thing I was right there.

Since them, once the car is up, I try my best to knock it off the stands before I go under it.

Our prayers and condolences to the family.. sad news..

  29. Condolances to Rays family...jeez it just reinforces the fact that you can't even get under there for that 'quick look' without the stands......and level ground.

    That's so sad to hear.

I think I over-do with jack stands.. I don't trust them.. so I usually double up on them.. I dunno.. maybe I'm paranoid.. but rather be safe than sorry.

    Prayers out to the family.
