Hello everyone. My name is Jared. I am new to hot rodding need some advice. I have a 1946 dodge custom. It is pretty good shape for its age. This is my first project that I will doing welding and floor work on. It has the flat head 6 which I do like. But I have a 305 that I was think of putting in. Now the car is all original. but I don't have a big budget to do a show car restore. If I wanted to put the 305 in would I be able to drop it in with out doing any crazy custom stuff. Like could I drop it right in to the engine bay? I would like the original look just with some more power then the 6. Now if I wanted to keep the 6 but just get a more common transmission to put in what options do I have? Any help at all on make this swap or info on people have done would be great thanks.

I wish I could help, but I know nothing about about this auto. I would however expect that you would need to fab motor mounts.

Welcome from South Carolina. Consider your skill level, equipment and tools, and FUNDS. It's never as quick and cheap as first thought. Where will the work be done, the driveway will limit the time you can spend on it, and maybe you get complaints from neighbors. My opinion is it's better to be cruising around in an old car than talking to your friends for years about a build. That said, I have a 351C Ford in my 49 DeSoto, so I don't think space is a problem.
