    Anybody out there recognize this air cleaner base? It was on a 1957 Chevy Carter 2555S carb. (last pic). There are no markings on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Vincent

    Looks like it could have been a spark arrester from a marine application to me......

    Yes it does look like it would take 2 of the flame arrester units. Early 4 bbl

    on a 2 bbl. The units seem to be generic but don't hold me to that. A couple of mine have US Coast Guard stamped on the arrester parts. Measure the opening and the distance between the 2 mounting screws.

    "Measure the opening and the distance between the 2 mounting screws."

    <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->The 2 openings are 4" x 2 1/2" The screw holes are 4 1/2" center to center.

    Does it have any value?

    Thanks for the info.

    Yes they are marine flame arresters. One of mine says U.S.C.G Approved I have 2 different sizes but one is your size so I believe that they came with standardized openings. With out the arrester parts they are not worth much IMHO but at least you know what to look for. There are many versions of the aluminum parts but the arrester parts that bolt on seem to be pretty consistent in size.

    I had to have these because I'm such a "rogue" :D These are smaller than yours but they are cool.

    Keep those measurements in you wallet so you always have them when you see one.

    For sure they are marine Chris Craft used them back in the 60's. We still have boats of that vintage.

    Last one I saw like that was on a Chris Craft w/Chevy small block.
