Guys..if you have been following my progress on getting my truck going this is my stand still point. It is a 61 Econoline with a 200Ci motor swapped in, still not sure exactly what it is out of. The truck has spark but only on the first crank of the starter and when the key is let off. two sparks on all plugs. period. I believe the electronic ignition box that was converted to on the truck is bad. as you can see it has seen better days by the pics. Problem is I have no idea what it is off. The only marking on the box is the numbers 21 7 69. It is a 5 wire box and it is 4.25" and 2.5" tall. colors of the wires are red, black, yellow, light blue, and brown. The distributor is a Ford Unit and is numbered D2OF 12127 DA I have researched for several hours and found nothing. Figured I would see if someone recognizes the box.
go to an auto parts store, buy a rebuilt point distributor for your engine, be done with it. D2 means 1972 btw
Get a points distributor and be done.I would stay away from the pertronics units.I have had nothing but bad luck with them.Keep It Simple and drive it.
The control unit is actually off of AMC, Jeep '75-'77. Echlin (NAPA) part # is TP75. The AMC part number is 3224964 Prestolite.
Hey guys..I have been thinking about just going back to points as many have said and just keeping it simple. Figured I would try the route that it is set up for first. 40FORDPU that box sure looks close to the one I have except the harness is a little different. Mine has 3 female and two male. That one has two female and two male with a 3rd separate male? I dont think it will be just plug and play by the looks of it. Looks like points might just be the best option.
Points are good, a Duraspark is better. You may already have a duraspark dist being used with that older box. There was a recent thread about wiring in a duraspark here about a month ago. Nothing is as simple as going back to a points ignition tho. Try and buy USA made points. Don't buy the 1.99 China points. All you need to keep points going is a screwdriver and a match book for a tool kit. Frank
Since the TP75 plug was different, I would suggest the TP85..hard to make out the plug in the Buyers guide.
