One of our members brought this head to our Inliner meeting yesterday. We don't know what it is, maybe Dodge but it is smaller than Ford and has 15 head bolts. Sorry I didn't have a way to measure it, It is aluminum and there are no markings that I could see. I' not even sure it is automotive. Sorry for the poor quality of photos.
I grew up with a guy who’s dad only drove Jeeps, dad bought him a ‘49 Jeepster when he was about 14 or so and they restored it. That bolt pattern brought back some memories, here is a head with the same pattern. Being aluminum and having that water manifold on it makes me think it may have been designed for a Midget racer.
Doesn't look anything like either my Dodge or a Plymouth four. Dodge Fast Four has distributor through the head as does Ford;
The bolt pattern looks like early Continental, but I can't match it to any specific engine. In the 1920s, Continental made engines for a number of small makes.
Thanks guys. The Jeep looks promising. Were Jeeps Continental engines or Hercules, or Did Jeep or Willys make them?
I bet it's a head for the Willy's Whippet engine that became the Jeep engine Edit: nope not any Willy's I could find...good luck Maybe a marine head for a Willy's?
The Bantam Recon Cars (an early contender for the Jeep contract) used Continental engines, but they only made about 2700. The Jeep contract went to Willys, who used their own engine. When the army gave a 2nd contract to Ford, they had to tool up for the Willys engine.
@Six Ball You came close to measuring it. A dollar bill is 6" long. A little bit of folding and you can get a close enough measurement for a lot of things. Sorry no help on the ID.
