HAMB Braintrust, If you have been lurking around the for sale and eBay links pages, you have noticed that I have been posting lots of parts from my former boss' estate, as well as from a couple of estates we had contained within our business that we were handling. One of those estates contained within that I am working on trying to wrap up is that of the late Larry Rathburn. Larry was a well known builder, and many of you knew him. Going through the stuff I have left from his place, I have several of these drums/hubs. The drums are finned aluminum Buick, which he had cut the centers out of, and then was adapting these wide 5 sections to fit on top. This is way out of my wheelhouse... Can you guys tell me what his endgoal was? Is this stuff worth anything (and how much), or should it go on to make Kia's? I really appreciate the help. Brian
read this thread? https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/ford-truck-floater-wide-five-when.1083326/page-2 don't toss them....
Old school at that. It's an actual old 3/4 ton hub, not a lighter Frankland, or Safety Racing, or others, alloy racing hub.
To my knowledge the dirt track boys ran the Buick drums on their "floaters" before they came into popularity on street cars.
After getting your PM, they are original Ford 3/4 ton hubs ( 1939-41), with the Buick drums. The iron hubs are not nearly as popular as the aluminum aftermarket pieces. The biggest demand for the wide 5 floater stuff has been for the restoration of old Modifieds, and that market is slim. The aluminum versions show up periodically, and can be bought for $100.00 a piece, but cracks and stripped threads are prevalent, as race car parts have a rough life. The Buick drums would have some value, had they not been machined out. Depending on where you are located, will also have a bearing on the market. Mid West to East Coast is probably the best bet. Put them on the HAMB Classifieds for $100.00 each, and see what happens. They look cool on the right car, Good Luck.
Many thanks to Marty for his help with identification based on a couple of pictures. I'm working on sorting the stuff based on 'likeness'; here are the 4 that are the most alike. You'll notice number 2 is a Frankland. I'll probably start with these over on the classified soon.
