I found the remains of a cyclecar in a barn 12-15 years ago but has not been able to look at the stuff until now. The front end is the regular 38 inch wheel to wheel width, but with very unusual underslung transverse spring design.. With tiny Rudge whitworth hubs and centers, and beautiful tapered spring.. Looks very old.. i would guess teens or twenties. Any idea what make this can be.. ?
Thgere is an ancient Floyd Clymer book, approximate title "Those Wonderful Old Automobiles", that is common in public libraries. Your library can get a copy by interlibrary loan if they don't have it...it has a chapter on cycle cars with a bunch of pictures. I'm assuming that you have some sort of networking system of different levels of library and that materials can be borrowed from bigger libraries as needed... I don't know of any other books that have anything on cycle cars, but I'd bet there are British publications.
Just searched the world...there are a number of obscure cyclecar books out there. Question becomes...what can your local library system accomplish on running down obscure books! There are other routes too, allowing you to substitute large quantities of money for interlibrary loan.
Thanks Bruce. Guess i will have to place ads for books and info.. Pretty neat parts, so it would be fun to figure out more... Also, the front end is signed with a kind of stamping... don`t remember excactly what it was though.. Any more ideas out there?
