Hot Rods !!!Please Help Me With My Stumbly 283!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by cactus1, Aug 5, 2011.

  1. Ok, now, I mixed and matched parts to get the desired configuration. I am using the body of the better performing carb with the bottom and top of the first one, but....

Now , I am having issues with the accelerator pump sticking in the bore. It ran great last night in the garage, and the tip in stumble seems to be gone. I still have a high rpm stutter though. This morning I went out to start it and there is hardly any pump shot. I took it apart and the rubber (black) on the pump is wedged in the bore so it is not returning up without folding up on the shaft. Crap!! I tried a couple different ones with the same result.

Is this a problem with the "new" gasoline? Is there a different pump plunger material? The rebuild kit comes with a leather one but it does not seem to be correct for my carbs.

    HELP!

  2. Yup, I tried the leather one and it is no bueno.

I never saw a reply to the "check ball in accelerator pump hole" YES, there needs to be a ball in there.
Also, I think it's compression problem, maybe a bad cam lobe. It may be a burned exhaust valve. not an intake valve though too much vaccuume.
