Can someone id this front axle? I bought it at a swap meet awhile back for $20. it has a wide 5 bolt pattern and looks like it had juiced brakes. All the brake internals are missing though Can I use these backing plates to put juice brakes on a front beam for my 28 model A pickup? I'm on the hunt for a cheaper brake option for my build up then buying a repo set. It either this or possibly swapping some 49 chevy brakes onto a ford beam. Thanks Chris
Model a axle... with 37-8 drums. the backing plates look like mechanical brakes though. You'd have to switch the backing plate spindle and drum/hub to get juice brakes...
Ford had wide five and juice brakes in 39 but that doesn't look like a ford backing plate. Sorry, I'm not much help.
I have a 30 model A axle complete but looks totaly different backing plate wise and has spots on the kingpins for the linkage...thats why I thought these might be for juiced brakes.
Looks To Me Like You Have Found An Aftermarket Juice Brake Conversion. The Backing Plates & Drums Look Like '36 Ford Parts, Back In The Day You Could Buy A Conversion Kit To Modifiy Your Mechanical Brake Backing Plates To Run A Juice Wheel Cylinder. My Buddy Just Scored A Set Of 4 Off An Old Hot Rodded '34 Ford.... Stock Backing Plates With A Conversion Kit. Kinda Cool Cus The Earlier Brakes Pulled The Wheel Under The Fender About An Inch Or So More Than The '39 & Later Brakes. Cool Find If You Run Fenders Or Are Going For A Period Perfect Early Lakes Car.
