IDK, it is a Kustom but I think they might be custom made. I’m on a cell phone and it’s kinda hard to count them but I think there are about twice as many Buick grill bars as on the Merc. Not only do they look more massive they also have a large radius at the top.
here is a pic of just a Buick grille, the large radius at the top is partially hidden by the buicks upper bar
You could be right. I’m also thinking of building my own custom grill out of something like around 5/16” stainless tubing, rather than cutting up a good Buick grill . Something along the lines of this.
Does anybody have a 54 Buick they could measure those grill bars for me? How wide are the vertical bars?
I think that is a 53 Buick grill, not pot metal like the 49 or 54 Buick grill, but individual stainless steel grill bars, over a steel backer.
here is a thread on Butch's grille from back when they were available, Man 1300 bucks? https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/butch’s-cool-stuff-grill-for-merc.985726/
To me, the first grille pictured looks like it was made up of '52 Buick teeth, which are stainless steel shells over a steel inner structure. The teeth are wider than the 53 and 54 grille teeth. '51 Buick is also similar but not exactly the same as '52. You'd need at least 2 grilles to make it though, the end pieces on the '52 don't go all the way to the bottom behind the bumper guards, you'd need full length ones to fill in the ends.
Yeah, I agree. After some research, the 51 and 52 look like what I had in mind. I have some ideas to make them strong, pretty and affordable. I might buy a couple of original 52 Buick grills to build one for my Lincoln. Might be best to start with new strips of stainless.
i have 2 identical buick grilles somewhere in the pile, i'll look for them and get a pic to you. edit: turns out they are different, same frame that holds them. PM me if you think you can make them work. thanks, mike.
