Cool, I started hearing the Beechey name when scouring the net for Nova related stuff, as I have a 67 Nova. One thing I seldom see is underhood shots of his engines, any chance that you have any, would appreciate it if you have any to post. I assume that the shot of the 409 that I posted is a more modern iteration as I would assume the original car used AFB's.
Sounds like Norm was a "National Heroe" in whatever he drove.

  3. DDDenny,
Your quite right about Norm being a national hero in whatever he drove. That of course is the proper subject of another thread and probably beyond range of this site.
As to the underhood shots , I don't have any personal shots of that kind . I would have to look around for old magazine articles from the day. I will see what I can find. Below is a pic of Norm in the queue at the local Collingrove Hill Climb championships in 2013.

So what exactly would this type of rod be called? Gasser? Is it officially HAMB friendly? just wondering, not stir the pot.
The little car with a big engine like this looks like it would be a lot of fun to drive.

It's right there on the quarter panel: Bad/Ass
Plus, extra points for not only the carbs, but the mag and the oil filler tube sticking out of the hood!!:D

I used to have a pic of the front suspension. It'd make you think long and hard about driving it at speed. But it's certainly a bitchin car!!

  15. Not a Gasser! Gas classes did not allow Foreign car (with the later exception for Anglia's and Austin) they did not allow convertibles, and the wheel base rule at it smallest was 90" (which was an exception for Anglia's only) and Bug Eyes are 80". Either Altered or M/SP in the "day"

I think it was a recent build to look like that, but could be mistaken.

I just got done working on a 67 427 435 HP Corvette and a 65 340 HP Corvette and drove both of them and I tell you I would much rather drive my 409 Belair.

I believe that is the one that has been to Joplin. If I remember right it is a re-creation of a car his dad raced. Front end was VW if I recall correctly.

Great thread! I am putting 348 with dual quads in my 36 3 window and to see the carb , manifold combinations in different rods is fantastic ,Gary.
