this was my car for my senior year in high school it had a green plexi roof,it leaked and was hotter n hell when the sun came out in Portland
forgot the damn pic here are the tires (you can see them on his site too), and a more recent b&w pic of my car, looks SOOO much better raised up higher... its crazy how much i fell in love with the car being higher! this is the only pic of my car i have at work sorry!
I have seen plexigl*** with louvers in it. I do not know how they did it, but it sure would be cool looking and cooler on the noggin. The air would flow in thru the windshield and out thru the louvers. Your coupe looks bad***!
i was thinking the same as Rooster why not used a tint under the plexi and if you used a mirror tint it should reflect the sun and give you a crazy orange mirror on your roof
Are we talking about Plexigl*** or Lexan? I'd be a little afraid of Plexi (acrylic) -- it will shatter, etc. Lexan (polycarbonate -- used for "bulletproof" windows" ) won't. No expert on windows, but I have worked with plexi and lexan. I also understand that Lexan (and maybe Plexi) loses some of it's flexibility/clarity after prolonged sun exposure. But some things are worth it
that was most likely Lexan not plexi .Lexan is much better material than plexi one shop I worked in used to bend Lexan in the press brake just like sheet metal very tough and you can get it in a scratch resistant form specialy for window use won't crack like plexi does either.
I drove an ot car for a bit with clear plexy replacing the canvas sliding roof(wasnt a bug though) It was not a pleasant experience in the south Texas heat, even with ac. I think an orange one could maybe look cool, but I wouldn't wanna drive it during the day, even with a shade underneath. Jmho
You should consider using that reflective mylar insulation stuff (you've seen it used on windshield sun screens) facing up on the underside of your orange plexi roof. Cover the bottom of the mylar, in whatever would go with your interior. It would keep the car super cool, and would really make your plexi top shimmer in the sun! Again, very cool car!
best idea so far. Imagine some metalflaked plexi for the insert and then a white leather interior! OOOOOOOooooooo makes me hard
How bout somma that mirror finish formica? Trim it in, snap in place under the insert, then when you show, throw it under the engine! In alla the transgender jacking I think we've lost focus on several issues yet to be addressed. 1. Bending. I'd suggest d****** the whole sheet of acryllic over an old junkyard wagon with about the right crown, then torch it down to mate. Polish that roof up first of course to minimize polishing of the panel later. Or worse, diggin **** out of it. 2. Mounting. You could probly just float it on silicone bathtub caulk if it were structurally held by a trim ring. 3. T******* the exterior. I think it'd be ***s (but not on a dude) to use a polished stainless trim ring. I'd make the rounded 90's ya need for corners with windshield stainless trim. Then use similar size side stainless to fill in between. Tig it all togehter and attach with regular acorn nut trim clips. I suppose ya'd fill the rest of the cavity between acryl. and body with more silicone caulk or butyl to discourage water pooling and rusting before boltin the ring down. I'm sorry... anybody else for keeping the topic at hand alive? I have ideas but no experience at actually doing this and am as curious as anything. Except about dudes ***s.
I took and sealed off the roof on my van with a custom piece of rubber window molding, and some good water proof sealer, it doesn't leak, we ran water over the roof for a good half hour, no leaks. We got a crown on it just by d****** it over my dad's buddy's van and heating it a bit. I'm sure you can do it on a buck of sorts, but the van was there and it had the same roof crown.
I have nothing to contribute as to your overcomplicated roof thread, but you definitely won the picture battle with evel.
