Plug Fouling - Heat Range???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fandangler, Jul 17, 2009.

  1. Hey guys! So I rebuilt my 235 motor this spring and put it in a while back. I just got it running and am trying to get everything ****oned up but I am having a problem fouling plugs. The motor was bored out to .080 over and I am wondering if because of this I need to run a different heat range plug in it. All six plugs are getting a carbon foul (soft, black, sooty) within 20-30 seconds of starting the motor. I rebuilt the carb but no change. Timing seems to be on. Valves are adjusted. I tried to adjust the fuel air mixture but haven't really had any luck with that either. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

sounds like your not running on the idle circuit in your carb..or the float level might be too high...or both

I use common v-8 plugs in my 235 and even when it was jetted really rich it would not foul the plugs. I use Accell 137's I think same as an AC-44?

I think ya got a carb problem, too. stuck or leaky needle and seat. Float level too high? If you have the ethanol gas you need a lower float level because the specific gravity of this new stuff is different than traditional gasoline.
