After I had my old 65 ford 240 rebuilt, I got it back with a plug in the dipstick hole. It's just a smooth top plug down in the hole. Anyone ever seen anything like this and any advice on how I should get it out?
I can't speak for your engine, but you asked if anyone had seen this before... Some SBCs had the dipstick come right out of the pan with a boss attached with three rivets. The block itself was plugged in the exact same fashion you mentioned. Are you sure you got YOUR block back? Most machinists are not going to plug a hole unless specifically told to do so.
Oh... if you can get to the back side, get a piece of straight steel or br*** rod and drive it out with a shop hammer.
No I actually didn't, It turns out my old block was cracked too bad to use. I had them find me another 6 block just because I'm trying to keep it stock. Not sure where they got it.
Thanks, when I get her home next weekend I'll drop the pan and see if that works. I moved and it's still at my old place. Not sure what a plug in the dipstick hole would be good for anway
If another model of the same engine uses a dipstick in the oilpan, the block would be plugged. No issue there, but I would run a galley brush with solvent thru the hole just to make sure it was cleaned before the plug was put in.
