I know this may seem like a stupid question, but on the red ruby red spark plug wires from mooneyes can you see the spark travel through them.
If they are the clear ones like they had in the 60's it's fun to watch the twinkle lights under the hood. They were lame then and they are lame now. In the early 60's they were something that non car guy put on their cars to try to appear to be a car guy and they usually got pulled off and thrown away within six months because the car ran so bad with the wires shorting out all over the place. And no you can't see the voltage go through them it's the spark that isn't making it to the plugs that you see.
Ok, so you can see the spark travel through. I am going totally old skool on my 235 and i think they look cool
ok so they are just clear red wires. It didnt matter if they light up or not at all they kinda look cool.
cut the wire use clear plastic tubing to join back together leaving a gap....watch the spark jump the gap...........
54, if you are interested the Harley guys have spark plug ends that light and fire with each signal from the ignition. You can look at Dennis Kirk or JP Cycle catalogs for the ends. They are called, " lighted spark plug caps ", and they come in straight, 45 and 90 degree bends. The manufacturer claims to not effect plug performance in any way. I am not going there, LOL, TR
They just have an LED in them don't they? Probably doesn't draw much current and wouldn't be noticable on a stock engine.
Not sure benno, I thought they were actually a neon type deal, no one I ride with actually has them, TR
Nope you cant see the spark and yes they are kinda shitty.I am using the new style cloth wires from Hot Rod Company, they are insulated and work real nice.
If you have a lot of under hood heat, the clear/red wire isn't going to last too long. And your neighbors will love you. They will know every time you light that engine off. Don't use them with electronic ignition.
Electricity needs to jump across air (or some other gas inside a tube, like in a neon tube) to make a spark. If you are seeing sparks on the outside of your engine, you are getting shorts where they aren't supposed to be. There is no air gap inside that clear wire for the electricity to jump across.
This is funny. He posts this after many times and many ways of being told no ,you can't see the "spark" and that you should not see the "spark"
Small neon bulb, wire soldered to center terminal (no ground connection needed), wrap a few turns of the wire around the spark plug wire, it will flash at spark time. One bulb/wire per cylinder. OTOH I have never forgotten an open hood roadster I saw back in 1959 with the "clear red" ignition wires. It's the wires that grabbed me. I've never used them but maybe that sight turned me to the dark side of cars.......
Doesn't electricity travel at the speed of light? You gotta have pretty good eyes to see anything move that fast.......
