Here’s an instruction sheet. Shows .020 point gap. There is also instructions for setting dwell , sorry about the blue overspray
I atill use one of those "Mallory Double Life" 3-lobe distributors in one of my vintage racers and a 6-lobe unit in the other. One note of caution: After being dormant in storage for several months between events i.e., like through the winter, the points always need to be filed clean for a reliable contact surface.
I have always figured that the physics of the spark energy for most all points requires a gap of .18-.22", having a clear open that will not jump. This would apply to dual points, single points, dual lobes like yours. Cold war motors mentioned something I had not heard before; Dwell equals 2/3rds of 360 degrees divided by number of cylinders. Makes sense, given the amount of dwell needed to saturate the coil and the physical limits of point cam, spring and weight limits. I'd guess you could have a wilder cam, along with a stiffer spring and even a roller rubbing block, perhaps even a desmo setup, but it's easier to double up on the points like this or a staggered pair as often used to increase dwell.
