I've got a distributor with no points or wiring inside. Can anyone tell me how to wire up a new set points, condenser, and ground? Thanks!!
On yours, I believe that your primary/low tension wire comes in through floor of the main body through a grommet. It then snakes up to bolt onto the points. The wire and grommet should be checked carefully to be sure all is solid and not in danger of grounding out from a bad grommet. You also have a little woven bare wire connecting the points plate to the distributor body below for a ground. This should also be carefully checked, as it can break down from decades of point plate movement. Doesn't happen on 6V. The points get full voltage all the time. On 12V you have a hot start mode because the voltage is dropped from 12V to the points in run mode.
It's probably more information than you were looking for, but this might help you "get your ducks in a row". Especially if you're kind of starting from scratch. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...-basic-ignition-systems.983424/#post-11072728
