Inspired by Tuck's post on his 60 el camino shop truck, I decided to polish on my 58's faded original paint. I like the look of a nice weathered original car, but it was getting to the point where something needed to be done. Here's the before and after pics. I still have a little left to do...it's a big car to polsih by hand in 111 degree heat. I used the red rubbing compound by turtle wax.

Sorry the pics are so small, i'm still not sure how to make them appear large but have a file size small enough to post here.

I did the same trick with my 55 Olds sedan in 1966. I also did mine in the summer heat and you're right, it's a huge job but its' worth it...

Wish I'd had a buffer tho.....

I'm moving your thread to the main board

on the Camino after I flaked the roof I went around it with the D/A sander and 800 grit sandpaper, then 1200 sandpaper, the wet/dry system... and buffed it out again.

    that really made it GLOW.

Thanks....the paint is thin in some spots, primer showing through, but overall it came out real nice. I still have to do the trunk lid, I'll get to that tomorrow. I'm doing it by hand, and going in straight lines as opposed to circles. The compound is really aggresive so any scratches that go through aren't in circles. Maybe it'd buff up nicer in circles though. After this I might do a little pinstriping on it, or get some one more skilled to do it for me.
