i stumbled across this article after thumbing thru some old rod action mags from the late 70s. the car in pic is not the spencer car but a replica made in the late 70 which i also have the issue which they show the diferences. any who just thought id share what i did. i used polishing kit that i got from harbor frieght and mothers mag aluminum wheel polish. before after im going to go over it one more time with some jewlers rouge but what do you think???

for what it's worth, try one of those MOther's Balls that Foose does that ads for on tv. I use that and aluminum polish. Works great. I polished the frame on my dirt bike to a mirror finish in about 20 minutes. Last time I attempted that was with cotton balls and the polish. Took me about 3 hours....my buddy also polished the rims on his F250 and about punched me...it took him 2 hours to get one wheel polished the old fashioned way, and I showed up with the MB and within 30 minutes, I had all three looking brand new....

i have one of those but have not tried it yet. and i could be mistaken on the spencer roadster because during that year they were makeing a replica of the spencer car

I used Simichrome which is easy to use and really works well. Pep Boys used to carry it, now only Eastwood seems to have it.
I have both the Mothers big ball and the little one. Tried the big one and was not enthusiastic about the outcome. Good, but not great. Doesn't do well in small spaces. Going to try the small one to see if it works better. If not, guess I'll go back to hand polishing. Takes longer, but better control over the finished product. Regardless of my take, others rave about the Mothers polishing balls.
What am I missing with the Rod Action tech story where it's showing how to use a center cap, painted black so that the extra lug nut holes on the wheel doesn't show?!! Why make hub cover plates and paint 'em black. They're not black on the featured roadster. .....duhhhhhhhh........ I'm sure it's clear as a bell to most of you, but I'm cornfused!
yeah thats what im sayin. i dont know why you would go thru the trouble of polishing your wheels then cover it with black plates.
