Based on the TV shows is there dress code and IQ test before racing?

Did it a lot as a youth. Now when I see someone racing around I want to smack them with my cane.

Your like to post ratio is low.

The like option has been here too long to be a viable excuse and is a commonly used feature by members.

‘re your last weak riposte .....I think not....you might want to look into the definition of ‘projection’. ;)

I think we are done here.

$7k run a couple weeks ago, not sure if their doing 1/8 or full 1/4. Back in march they had a fire going to heat the pavement. More balls than I ever had.

  6. I'm not concerned about likes.

I have no idea what your complaints are. Obviously something is bothering you.

There was no reposte from me. Was there an insult from you?

Ah hell I haven’t pissed anyone off in a while...it pisses me off when people who are older than me are automatically right because they have more “life experience”.

This is a t***** subject to contemplate, and in order to discuss you must give up all prejudices, preconceptions and anecdotal information about the past, and things that have happened to other people. The reason is simple enough, the people who have brought back this outlaw form of compe***ion have done so because the organization that was supposed to exist as an alternative ceased to offer drag racers a chance to 'run what you brung' and turned it into a money machine with a moniker those left out began calling No Hot Rods Allowed. That started the reflux back to basics turn of events that created a new generation of racers who don't give a fig about the onus of endangering life and limb, not only theirs but yours, mine and anyone else's unlucky enough to cross paths with them during a race. And, to add to the haystack there is also media attention that do***ents (loosely defined with less malarkey) by the show runners that some of the car themed **** with celebrity builders, doers, shakers and their loosely scripted monkey shines while involved in the parallel universe of the 'hold my beer and watch this' stunts that were viewing fodder in the not too distant past. And, in order to be fair you need to include the stupid stuff that happened on the motorcycle shows as well. The current phase of what is happening has a long and storied past and like an diseasewill get worse before it gets any better. Why? There are street driven factory built automobiles out there so quick and fast it numbs the mind to even compare what they are capable of doing as compared to cars most of us inspired by this site are able to build and drive. But, don't think I'm giving anyone a p***. Existentially we are all guilty of what happens because the same values that shape our intentions and results are no better or worse than that of the most hardened street racer. The only difference is that we don't act on those impulses because we know better and are able to allow our better natures to prevail. And, I am sure many of us watch, or have watched these shows with suspended judgements as to the moral nature of the content. I will leave it there. This is a subject that deserves more discussion, more attention, and input. Just condemning it out of hand is to turn a blind eye to it. Maybe some of us want to do something about it but have as yet lacked a forum to discuss our thinking on it. Keep this open to constructive comment and maybe a spark will ignite and shed a little light on what HAMBers can do to change what can be changed, etc.

As a former what you would call a semi professional street racer. Racing between the strawberry fields of south Fl. The racing on TV is not realistic for most of the shows.
We did not have any spectators, we did not have any risks other than the 2 cars and their drivers and of course acres of unpicked strawberries.
The races were set up during the week and no one was told except the contestant's to make sure the cops hadn't been tipped off. Because they towed your car and your tow rig and you went to jail.
We wouldn't race where there was traffic or houses to make sure no traffic would get in the way.

I saw many a wreck watching 'street racing'. Saw one guy die when he was ejected from a T Bucket...Saw a big $$ MOPAR muscle car flip after it hit a curb at 100+....Nope. Not me. I'll stay clear of that BS nowadays. Let someone else lose....

YouTube is full of vids of guys who think they can drive crashing into crowds of people while leaving car shows (not sure why but it seems to be predominantly mustangs) or cars taking off and getting squirrely when they loose traction on the crosswalk paint... how do you know the guy lining up next to you isn't one of those guys?

I don't believe the "Spray Paint" story of painting start and finish lines on Oklahomas I-40 back in the early sixties. Spray paint was not readily available or affordable enough to be used for that purpose in that time frame. Could you imagine the amount of spray paint that would have been required? We painted our start and 1/4 mile finish lines using buckets of white paint and brushes on NY I-495's service road.

Back in the sixties everyone Street Raced. Thats what you did. Factory built muscle cars and home built hot rods were every where. Would think of it now a days.
