blanket statements about what is a hot rod and what couldn't be are silly. it's how it is built on the inside. one of the fastest, most fun, hot rods i was ever in was a 4dr plymouth, you know, the chubby chick with the 100k a year job who cleans, jokes, cooks in the kitchen and the bedroom..........or maybe the swim suit model who just "can't", "won't" or "you must be kidding?" i like sleepers anyway........
Build the Vicky. Even though there are those that "...wouldn't give ya a buck for a Victoria", and to some it "looks like an old mans vintage car with a fat *** to me. Parade car , not a "Hot" rod.", I think the example below is really tasty! Here is one that is "Right at home on static display in a park complete with all its vintage parts (fenders etc) and a couple of rag dolls or what ever they call them." I wish this one was on static display in my garage...
Even though this is a '31 Chevy it has the bustle like the Ford Victorias. Although this one isn't being kept "on static display in a park" it is fairly complete with most of its vintage parts including the fenders. It is/was owned by II FUNNY here on the HAMB.
That has to be the most oft quoted incorrect "Fact" repeated on Rodding sites. It all came about when a magazine writer put it in an article, somewhat tongue in cheek, to make a point about how many aftermarket 32 bodies were being produced. The fact is there were, by most accounts 80,840 '32 Ford Coupes made, and if you believe there are over 80,000 32 coupes out here you must never have actually been to California or are really gullible LOL (I believe the original said there were more '32 Fords registered in California than Henry made) which is even funnier since total 32 Ford production was 438,284 vehicles
I have heard that statement and the same said about the first Gen Camaro. I do see more S&S Knuckleheads than real knuckleheads these days though.LOL We may have gone off on a rabbit trail here, the thread is about 30/31 Vic v 30/31 coupe.

Coupe because I got the urge to build an 'East Coast' style hot rod, no chop but heavy channel. The bar on building a Vicky is very high, it would be a major commitment.
I see more knuckleheads on forums ........
and most of them seem to find their way here eventually!
For all the "hard-core HAMB bad-***" guys here, looks to me like his plan includes fenders, so you guys aren't gonna like it anyway, whatever body style he chooses...
The Vicky is difficult to do without fenders. They look great with fenders. With a coupe, you can drop it down between tire's without much fuss, however - go too far and it looks like a **** up. Some guys will move the wheel wells up and then it looks like it's supposed to.. You can't do any of that on a Vicky without some real work. Now since the m***es "want" the "looks" at the least amount of resistance, well that doesn't point them to the Vicky. A scroll thru land sea and airs Vicky build thread will show some of what's been done but not many can point the change out because it looks like it's supposed to be that way.
Sorry, lol I guess I am a bit gullible. Learn something new everyday. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I was the first to cast a vote in this poll, and usually that is good enough for me and I almost never feel the need to comment again. I am "always" secure in my choices and that certainly is true of the one I expressed in this thread. I must preface this post with this--I love Model A's, all Model ,to me they are the epitome of what a Hot Rod is or should I say could be. I have owned Coupes and Sedans granted more Coupes than Sedans. As I read the post in this thread I find it very amusing that several folks are not able to just express a preference for one or the other of the two choices given by the OP, they also feel the need to put down the choice other than there own. Now is this just human nature? Or is there a need on there part to justify there choice as the superior one? Or is it the case that they are so insecure in there choice that for it to be valid they "MUST" belittle the compe***ion? Interesting to think about ! For me personally I would love to have the choice between a Coupe and a Vicky. I have never been able to find a Vicky to build, so I will just have to settle on Coupes and Tudors, not a sacrifice really because as I said I love Model A's.
I see more knuckleheads on forums ........
Yea, but are they original knuckleheads (like me) or late model? BTW Polish the wheels and chrome the grill on the Vicky above and it would be close to perfect. Give me the keys, all ya'll can keep your coupes and everyone is happy.
You have nailed the crux of why most people, countries, animals etc. (in general), can't really get along. You need the ability to experience empathy to be able to respect other people's decisions, (and just other people in general). I try every day to work on that myself. But I think in a forum like this, we might mostly be joking, and the ribbing might just be a kind of shorthand, for example: " Hey Joe, ya big dumb-***, how are ya? Love ya, buddy, take care..." But I do think you may be right about a good percentage of people here. I would really like an A coupe, because to me they epitomize what I think is cool, but when I think about the question "what would you build", I have to say a Vicky because I want to have my wife and kids with me, I have motorcycles to retreat to when I want to be alone.

And, yea, I know I'm one of them. 31Vicky with a hemi, As long as we're talking 2 wheeled knucks, I built my first one in the 60s, working on another one now.
Remember when no body wanted a knucklehead ?
nope, I remember when no one wanted to be one. Kind of made me special.
Either can make a nice hot rod. A vicky has more elegance, and also more wood, which can add a lot to build cost, time, and complexity. The vicky has potentially more leg room than a coupe. I would pick a vicky over a '30 coupe primarily because I have not had that body style, so there would be more to learn when doing the build.
unfortunately mines the wrong year to truly enter into this discussion, but I'm sure you know which way I'd lean!!! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
