Mustangs are a dime a dozen. Fastbacks are not, and bring a very large premium over coupes. Check the prices that both are bringing and do what suits you best. I suspect the 409 is worth more, though. On the other hand, check what Shelby clones are bringing, that's probably what the Chevy owner is contemplating. Either way, you have a nice car.

  2. Very few surviving, race pedigry, '62 Impalas, let alone 409ers. A '65 Mustang fast back you may be able to find again but this opportunity sounds like a once in a life time deal.

I would sell the mustang and finish my 49 chevy.

you came to the wrong board to ask this question. the overwhelming answer here should have been obvious. ask the same question on a mustang board and see what you get,, then try an impala or classic chevy group.

any mustang fastback is worth a shitload of money. most 62 Impalas are worth a bunch too.

one small picture of the mustang and none of the Impala is not enough to help you make a choice.

This would be a no brainer for me. GO FOR THE BUBBLETOP! Fastback or not unless it was a full on Shelby SCCA original trans-am road race car or a Hertz car then maybe I would stop and think about it for a minute. But I cant stand Mustangs and their typical owners I would never want to be among one of them, its a chick car, like most falcoons. Although I like your wheel choice on that car at least thats different.

  6. I don't know if the numbers matching thing is different between 62 and 63, but I would bet it is.

Alot of the dollar figures you are seeing is on 100% original cars. If the car was raced, who knows how the chassis, frame, etc is holding up.

If it is a comparable daily driver it is to be considered. To me that is way cooler than a Mustang any day.

But put a dollar figure on your car. My buddy flips them to Australia for mid teens to low 20K all the time. More for the right car.

Pictures will help, but in the end, do what you want to do.

  7. 409 cars typically bring more money, if the numbers show it to be a 409 car.

Just F.Y.I. If it were a bubbletop it would be a Bel Air, not an Impala.

    Oooh wow look another Mustang.

    Get the Impala.

  25. seems like there's a obvious answer here...sheez get the 62.

  26. Chick car or not I love pre '67 fast back Mustang's. But, a nice '62 409 Chevy, esp. if it's a bubble top Bel Air has to be one of the coolest cars ever. Besides, how hard is a Mustang to replace if you just hate yourself for trading it off? I'd go over the Chevy with a fine tooth comb but, I'd probably trade.

  27. Wow that was one sided haha. I used to be big into Mustangs years ago, and it's a beautiful car, but my passion is early '60s drag racing and a 409 is right there. It is a Impala sport coupe (not bubbletop Bel Air, though I wish...). Engine is a '63 340 or 380hp car 409, not truck, with a little head work and a cam done to it. I just need to make sure it was a true 409 car to start with, since '62s dont have any way of identifying them by there vin. I'll keep you posted how it turns out! Thanks

  28. The key here really is whether they are really like and kind condition. I'd go over that Chevy pretty carefully to make sure it isn't a wrong motor, covered up rust, previously totaled type of car.
If it is of equal condition I'd go for it, and I bleed Ford Blue Blood!

The real reason Ryan made the cut off year of 64 was cause mustangs came out mid year 64. Therefore they would be excluded from being HAMB material. Right?

    Get the chevy.
