if your a newbie, the key is to drive any pre 75 car in with a friend, anytime. it works out to a small discount and better parking that the "non-oldcar driving folks". AND YOU CAN TAKE in whatever you line to eat or drink. otherwise you have to go in at 6am or the night before with a seller. will be there about 7am I'm lazy and if not ther when I get there I didn't need it anyhow! I'll be in the 64 Fairlane wagon
and if you buy something, it is much easier to take it to your car. even something small can get pretty damn heavy it you gotta carry it through the entire swapmeet!! i'll be there around 7 also. rain or shine.
I get there Saturday night.. I drive around until about 5 am.. then split.. I go back at about 1pm and try to catch the last min. deals.. I load the back of Ranchero up with people and attack.
Ill be there around 6am. Moms fiance was going to drive his T so we could get the good parking, but then we figured if we found something there would be no way to haul it home.
if i go i get there between 10pm to 1am on sat night, sleep in the back of the panel and up just before dawn (a lot of sellers stuff still covered), then leave by 11am.
I get there about 6:45 and try to leave by 10. Be warned a lot of sellers there are high on crack and use ebay to set their prices. Stop by the guy with about a hundred intake manifolds about halfway up on the far east side and ask some prices and get ready to laugh. His prices are ridiculous.
His stuff isn't that great or hard to find. You can find Hilborn manifolds still, You can find the 6x2 intakes still. He doesn't have anything too spectacular if you ask me to justify his sky high prices. Notice it's always the same stuff? It's because he never sells anything.
I've been watching this guy unload those intake manifold for years (because he hardly ever sells any) out of the back of his truck, and if you were to watch how he and his kids literally toss them into the truck or out onto the asphalt, you would never buy one, they are so dinged up and scratched, almost to the s**** stage. He just piles them up in the truck at the end of the day, like they are a pile of rocks!
I'm guessing its the same guy I always see at the March Meet and the CHRR. He has an old polished Weiand Cross Ram that he been draging around forever. Just for fun I always ask what he wants for it but the price never changes. You would think he would get the hint/get sick of hauling it around and drop his price.
Well i was disappointed with today, left empty handed. Think i ran across the manifold man as well. He had a Hilborn setup that i eyeballed as i walked by, but with no intention of buying, and he says 'you better buy it now cause it wont be here later' I asked what he wanted for it, and moms fiance and myself gave a chuckle and walked away. It was still there at 11:30 when we left. Ive got to say i was disappointed with all of the vendors selling **** tools and nick knacks. I came to buy car parts not marked up Harbor Freight tools. Hopefully the next one will be more fruitful.
