My USMC son stationed at Pendleton is trying to convince me to come out to California in January to attend the Pomona swap meet, what do you all think of the meet,is it a good one to attend? Anything to watch out for? Beware of? other than overpriced junk, which I can find right here! need good advice!

  2. It is a huge swap meet that has been going on for MANY Years. The January one is the 15th. BUT if I were to make a trip to California, i would go on the 27-29th as that is the Grand National Roadster Show - plus the Long Beach Swap, which is quite a bit smaller is that Sunday (although it might be fairly dead with the GNRS the same day).
Or just come for two weeks and see em all.

You really need to go Homie!!! It is all that. There's good priced & overpriced, whatever your into, it's all there.

  4. It's a huge meet and one of the best. Get there early! You'll have a hard time covering it in a day if you like to shop. It's been a while since I've been but it used to be self-organized, meaning there's a Corvette row, VW row, etc.. but a bunch of it is hit or miss.

I also used to buy a vend spot... that will let you in early.

It is over 15 miles long, so go early and wear comfortable shoes. Also bring lots of money...

  7. I have never been to the Pomona swap meet but a chance to hang out with your Marine son and check out some great cars - sounds like great time, even if you don't buy anything.

If you decide go - We always stayed at the Kellogg West Conference Center & Hotel @ 3801 W. Temple Avenue when visiting our daughter at Cal Poly College. The hotel is located on the Cal Poly Pomona campus which is located on the Kellogg ranch (the hotel is on top of a hill over looking the valley and it beautiful). The hotel is run by the college students and It’s the best deal in town. You can’t beat the price and breakfast is included.

If you go - have fun<O:p</O:p

Come out anytime if it means spending some time with your Marine!
I personally would rather schedule a trip around the GNRS than a swap meet but if swaps are your thing then you may want to come to San Diego the last weekend of February for the Big 3. The Big 3 is a once-a-year event at Qualcomm stadium and it runs for 3 days.

Shhh! This info is supposed to be secret.

  13. Lets see; a chance for some sun and temperatures above freezing and your son. Sounds like the swapmeet would just be icing on the cake.

Livede 20 minutes away for 7 years. Never missed a meet. Lots to see and deals if you are careful.

As always lots of great replys, thanks all! Yeah the swap or show or whatever is secondary, the best thing is spending time with my Marine son,I'm a proud pa for sure. Also he inherited his gear-headedness from me,so how cool is that!

I Love Pomona, but I'd save my money and come out a couple months later for the Big 3 at the Murph in San Diego. Less Vendors, more real swap meet. It's also alot closer to Pendelton to boot.

If you like swap meets you should go! I was in CA last Jan and attended with my brother. It was huge. But after walking half a day and seeing mostly Chevy parts, I wondered about that. Found out later it is self organized, figure out the right area for you, cause you can't see it in one day. Have fun with your son!

Nice, I just got all excited. Guess I gotta sell some stuff quick so I can have some cash. By far my favorite swap. I would fly out for it from where ever I was at (other than when I was overseas) when I was in the Army.

Most important is spending time with your son, Secondly is doing car things with your son. If he;s into car things you are truly blessed. Lots of good suggestions. My experience with the Swap meet is Rain. I am the rain man of So-Cal. That swap meet goes on rain or shine. Along with comfortable shoes if it even hints of rain take poncho or something to keep you dry, cause I guarantee that once you get there you wont want to leave. Also think wagon of some kind. You will buy but you wont want to carry that stuff all day. First time I went I had to see everything and when the day ended we returned to the Hotel and we were located like on the third floor. My calf's hurt so bad I didn't think I was going to make it to our hotel room. Hurt so good.lol. I also like San Diego. Not quite as big in my opion, but pretty cool also and like someone said closer to your son and like I said last year they had a flood there (cause of me) and had to be closed for the weekend I believe. Sorry. Great time to had at both places and tell you son thanks for his service. YRUHOT...........Doug
