poncho engine id

    so im tryin to sell a motor for a friend
    date code on dist pad is c023

    but no numbers on front pass side
    dip stick tube is in way above motor mount
    is there another way to tell?

    its in a 63 tempest

    can you post the numbers that are on the middle exhaust port

    it could be a 326. 63 was the first year for that motor and it was offered in the tempest
     
  4. The actual displacement of that engine is greater than 326 for 1963 only. IIRC it is closer to 330 +/- . My memory has dimmed with the years, but there is something "off" about the back of the crankshaft, it being different than "real" Pontiacs because of the transaxle.

    Possibly the book written by Pete McCarthy, (I forgot the title, used to have a copy) would have more information on this.

    I believe the motor is later than that, has an EGR valve on the intake and looks like 69 or newer style water pump and timing cover. Are you sure thats a 63 tempest? Firewall, steering shaft looks wrong, but I'm only looking at pictures.

    Just looked at the pictures again, that car has a full frame and bolt in inner fenders. 63 Tempest was a unibody car.

  8. I never blew up the photo before I posted, that looks like later model heads.
