No big deal, just what I've been doing. My Chieftain had sat outside with most of the front clip off so things had got pretty rusty. I decided to fix the ****** leak and one usually can't just stop there.

The first pic gives some idea of what it looked like "before". The exhaust manifolds are off but they were crusted with rust.

I'm not in love with the valve covers but they are what I have. I'm hoping after all else is done to be able to find a nice original set.

Now I hope I remember how to put the ****** back together. LOL

Looks good. Pontiac engines are my favorite. Cool you have a 4 BBL. Looking up the specs looks like 227 Hp with the "H" block code 8.9 comp 014 cam 7008697 WCFB Quad. They even had a Dual Quad option that year rated at 285 HP 10:1 comp.
Keep us posted on your progress.

  3. My '55 engine was red? I saw some info that said Pontiac also used green? Is that the original color green and if so where did you find it? I have been looking for the correct green for a '54 straight 8 and the only place I have found so far is Bill Hirsch.

Motor looks good. I'll be talking to someone this weekend that has a few sets of '55 valve covers....I'll see if the guy will come off of a pair.

From what I understand, green was the correct factory color from 1940 something through 1957 with one exception in 57 (which I believe was red).

The factory green is a little darker. Bill Hirsch was the only place I could find it also. I wasn't too concerned with exact colors so I found this "tractor" paint over at the local John Deere dealership. This is darker than JD green but not as dark as factory Pontiac green.

I've found a correct manifold tri-power intake which I would love to have. It will have to wait on the funds though.

There was a dual 4 in 56. My buddy (these pics are in his garage) has a later model Pontiac dual 4 intake (back in the stuff in the background).

Too bad you aren't running the earlier hydro, that Stratoflight (Jetaway) you have isn't as good. Some 56's had the earlier hydro. Engine looks great!

****** will work fine for my needs but it would be fun trying to get people to try and help you find where in the world that Park went to. :D

  7. It's amazing that same year Chevys are so much more valuable, while being so much less cooler. Go figure. Looks great Boss:cool:

You should have seen the parts guy when I was trying to explain to him that I was looking for gaskets for the water intakes that go into the head. LOL

For future reference if anyone looks this up, the gasket for the push rod cover is the same as a late 70's Pontiac 400.

Park was conceiled by the genius's at the hydro factory. Pretty nifty place to put it. Stratoflight had to spoil the fun.
