Bought these at a swap meet, thought they would fit our "big chief" BBC heads. They don't, but I don't know what they go to. Could they be Canadian? Are they worth anything? I paid $75. Thanks
You could get big block Chevy engines in Canadian Pontiacs from 65 up, and I have seen a few, but never seen those before. I got the part # off the pic, will check it out at the local dealer tomorrow.....
Those sure look like Pro Stock style Olds/Pontiac/Dart Big Chief. You say they don't fit your Big Chiefs. What part doesn't fit, is it the bolt spacing? Or number of bolts? Here is a shot of Big Chiefs. 8 bolt pattern. -Abone.
Big Chiefs are alot bigger than normal BBC. These have the right # of holes but aren't big enough. The outside dimensions of the base/flange is 19 3/8" x 6". They are in like new, unused condition.
They look like GM Performance Parts valve covers for a kind of Pontiac head that fits on a BBC, if I remember right. Look on there website, Think thats where I saw them.
That's what I assume. The holes are threaded as well as the holes at each end(outside of cover.) I'd like to put them on Ebay, but I don't know how to identify them. Is there a "definitive" Pontiac site that might have knowledge? Anyone??
Good guess Brandon, definitely SB2 small block Chevy,or "corporate" valve covers.More than likely left overs from Joe Gibbs Racing. There have been no Pontiac powered Cup cars for 2 years now.
What is an SB2 small block Chevy. These are much larger than a normal small block Chevy...and they have 8 holes.
Ahhh.. SB2s... Kinda hard to tell how big they are from the pic. SB2s and Big Chiefs have a VERY similar bolt pattern, just smaller for the SB2. As an ex-Ford guy and now hard core Poncho guy, I can't belive I'm about to say this...but... The SB2 is one BAAAD mutha. Strangely, the cyl heads were "inspired" by the Yates/Roush Ford head configuration. State of the fucking art cylinder head technology. Built with out rule restrictions, the SB2 platform will support WELL over 800 horse. I wonder why I haven't seen any of 'em in the big budget rod circles? It would be one small block Chevvie I would NEVER make fun of. -Abone.

When I'm trying to identify an unknown part that has a part number on it, the first thing I do is to go to http://www.google.com/ and type the number in the search window. There's so much information online now that you can find references to just about any part. The SB2 (now called the SB2.2) engine is used in every current Chevy in the NASCAR Nextel Cup series. They were designed for NASCAR racing. I seem to remember first hearing about the SB2 being tested in 1992. I've heard of a few of them in street cars around Indianapolis.
