Hey, I've got a '52 Chieftain and on the back quarter there is a chief emblem with red paint inlay. One side looks like new, while the other side has no red left. I'd like to fix the one emblem, but I have no clue what paint was used. It almost looks like its a metallic/transparent type paint. If anyone knows, I'd greatly appreciate it. If all else fails I'm going to find something close and just repaint both emblems.

    Thanks,
    Rusty

  3. I think it is a red toner such as the top coat of a Candy paint job. It's transparent and reflects the polished base. They didn't seem to last very long.I would try polishing the surface where the paint is and spraying on some thinned nail polish or if you have some Candy Red use that.A cheap alternative is to use model car paint out of a spray can.

That seems to make sense. Like I said, it seems like it's transparent so I think you might be correct with the candy top coat idea.
