I was at a friends house last night and he can't get the 4speed Hydro apart from his engine. Looks to me to have a bellhousing plate, that the******* bolts to. He has every bolt I could see out. I thought the******* would have to separate from the bellhousing first, then the flexplate, converter? I have never taken one apart so I'm at a loss. The******* did move a bit when pryed away, but I didn't want to brake anything. He's puttin the Popntiac in an old mid, late 50s dragster that is way cool. I am tryin to get him to put pics up so everyone can see. Any help would be appreciated. Larry
PUT THE BELLHOUSING BOLTS BACK IN!!! then undo all the bolts that hold the fluid coupling (it's not a torque convertor) together,on Olds there's 30 of'em,not sure how many on poncho.after all those bolts are undone seperate the two halves and THEN you can remove the trans.
I believe there's 32 of the fine threaded little*******s.Nuts and bolts..... get comfortable 'cause you'll be there for awhile. You don't mind a little******* fluid in your hair, do ya?
When you put it back together, make sure you have the right dowels in the flywheel lined up with the right holes in the torus cover, otherwise when you try to bolt it up you will warp the torus. Yorg: I think the Pontiacs do have the drain on the torus cover. You just have to remember to rotate the torus and look for it. Sure is a messy job on the torus covers with no drain plug.
Yes, there is a drain plug. You'll have to rotate it to find it, but it's there. What year trans is it? Bil
