I need to find out what auto transmission options I have on a Pontiac 389 motor. I am not sure what the bellhousing pattern is. Is it standard G.M., or is it on its own? I have to replace the trans but don't know what to look for. Thanks for any help.
B.O.P Buick Olds Pontiac bolt patern many Cadilacs have the same 2 bolts differ from chevy if my memory is right there is a cheap adapter availabel
Also depends on what year 389. Early one had the starter mounted to the bell housing. Mine is a '63, so I used a wilcap adapter to mount a 350th.
Your answer depends on the year of your block. 389s used 3 different bellhousing bolt patterns. If yours is the later 64-66 389s, they use the 'modern' pattern and 300/350 and 400 Pontiac trans fit. A simple adaptor and you can use a 700 like I do. Steve www.pontiacheaven.org
