Gotta Love Pontiacs Gaining ground on their Chevy Counterparts. The TA to the Camaro, the GTO to the Chevelle, the Safari to the Nomad!
Pictured here is a 56 Safari bought for 60.00 in 1964, stripped of some Nomad Parts and parked in the Back woods to die. I Bought the car for what the guy Paid, 4 years ago, but slept on it thinking it was never going anywhere. Last summer I went back to find a Ball of Tin as a S****per had tried to pick it up. Atleast I got some good Pics!

In the back ground is my 56 860 2 Door Wagon which I drove it back there for the pictures. Dragging all the way. The only good part about the s****pers was they made it easy to get the rearend out as mine is now trash, having lost the pinion bearing and chewed up the ring & pinion. Unfortunatly the Safari rear had years worth of water in it. Anyone have an extra 55/56 center secton?

128 fiat, hang in there. Jack chisenhall had his open house yesterday at Vintage Air (and I forgot my damn camera), but there was a 57 Olds wagon that blew everything else away. Hope someone got pics. Seeing that one car could start a trend, it was sweet.

I was just going to post one I saw on eBay the other day. Now there are 3 Safaris and a wagon on there. One is a mint black one that has a buy it now for $37,500 and another that needs work for $34,000.

Good for you Jive-Bomber, these cars are beautiful.

    Ok. Here's pics of my buddy's 57
He says it's a numbers matching, body number 995 colorado car.

    He's needs headlight hoods bad!!!!!!!!!!!!
He has buckets, but needs the hoods, so he can remove those friggin hagan frenched lights!!!

And it already has steel wheels and wide whitewalls back on. The cragers are gone.

He plans to pull his Model A roadster on a shorty trailer behind it. The roadster was built origianlly in 58, and campained stating in 62. It's going through a rebuild now.

    BTW, he's says it's a Transcontinental.

So is this one a rare one? It's a damn ***y car. He's trying to un-do some of the minor stuff, like those headlights!

    But leaving the louvered hood.

And a couple small pcs. of trim disappeared when it was in for repaint, so he's searching those out.

no, they tried to pick it up by the roof....it just looked like a ball of tin foil. The frame was so sunk in the dirt that the body tore from it and just crumbled. It was a Power Steering car, Straight Stainless, Skirts, Padded Dash Trim, remote Mirror. All I could salvage was the Door Sweeps, and the Stainless trim around the tire well and on the inside of the tail gate & the Fragile front seat side trim. Hope to use them to mold gl*** copies for my wagon. There was a really cool 57 Ranchero that sat on the other side, complete. Would have made for some cool pics. All that was really left was a 64 Elcamino, a 50s ford truck, and a 57 DeSoto, except for 70s cars. Pretty sad.

Wow!! that transcontinental is something else, I learn something new every day. What an *** kickin trim package, I was so anxious to remove all trim and badges as a young'un, now I am so into saving all of that origial stuff that made these icons of desire. My newest wagon, a 59 Ford 2-dr Ranch Wagon is going to have all original trim in place and maybe some stuff added, to much time around my mexican east L.A. friends that really appreciate and go the extra mile to preserve that accessory vice. Thanx for showing the pix of the T.C.!! ~Sololobo~ P.S. I am looking for the trim off a 56 Plymouth Sport wagon that goes across the rear hump below the tailgate, there were 9 stainless strips, of which I have four, that were in the vein of the Nomad and Safari.

I can't believe I just found this thread. I have the twin to this car. Looked forever for a 57 and finally found one.
