Old motors manual up to 55 or so.. To remove the head, put the bolts back in with 1/16"-1/8" gap then turn it over to pop it loose.

Before you get too deep, buy a factory issue '49 - '54 Pontiac shop manual ... either a used or repop will do. It'll be the best $20-$30 you'll ever spend.

The old Motor Manual is a good idea, the shop manual is a better idea or just start punching on your smart phone or computer and you can find all the information you could ever want.

What is the displacement of that engine?I have a 1934 I believe 216 with a 3 spd behind it ....its stuck pulled the head ..soaking it ....sat outside for a long time...was wondering how long Pontiac built a straight 8..

  7. As jimmy six said, get yourself an old Motors Repair Manual. You can find them at used book stores, swap meets and of course E-Bay. I have a 1957 edition that had all the information in it about my '50...

Get the 2 manuals, the internet is so straight up full of ******** and misinformation.........very rarely are the manuals wrong, also get the appropriate hollanders exchange manual while you are at it you will never regret owning these manuals.

  10. I have a Motors Manual,,,it goes from 1953-1962.
It has the Pontiac 8 listed in it.
It list the 8 and then the V8.
The high compression straight 8 is 7.7 to 1,,,at least in 53 that is.
    268 cid,,,2 bbl,,,122 hp at 3600 rpm.
Bore,,,3.3750,,,,stroke,,3.750,,,,,like I said,,this is 53,,,it may not apply to yours.
If I can help any just let me know.
