I got a chance to get started on my cowl induction for my 62 Bel Air.
One good thing there is one less gold Moroso air breather one the road.
I have one question. Was wondering if it makes any difference on the shape of the pan as in being square corner or would round be better? 20150907_150027.jpg 20150907_150243.jpg 20150907_154340.jpg

Man, I thought this was going to be about extra washers under the back of the hood hinges and yanking the rubber seal out!

I was thinking of using the the head light ducting but got to thinking there would be a bunch of hardware that would be getting real hot from the under hood temp.
So I have started this plan.

    I agree, cool!!
I have a buddy that did it with his 60 Belair and most people just think the hood is out of alignment.
Some peoples just dont get it :)

Saltflats, looking good so far! And i really dig whats under those carbs!

years ago, like in my late teens, I was running the valves on a friends solid lifter 340 duster in the service bay in this gas station where we all used to hang around (Charltons 66, for the Maple Ridge guys). So some guy is standing there WATCHING me bump the motor over, set the lash, bump it more ect. ect this goes on for about 1/2 an hr. So we button it up, fire it up, and Dennis is backing it out, and this guy who has BEEN WATCHING me do this, walks up, leans over to me confidential like, and says "you better pull that thing back in here, it sounds like it has some collapsed lifters...":D:rolleyes:. the guy was so sincere, I honestly didn't know what to say, so I just kinda mumbled 'uh, yea". Damn straight, some peoples just don't get it...

Rounded the corners and re did the hold down so it does not look like an Easter basket handle. 20150909_080627.jpg

Is this going with a cowl hood or flat?

Plan for low areas in your bottom pan to allow water a path, instead of into your carbs.

You can also cut open the firewall on the passenger side and duct air from the cowl into your "plenum" if using a flat hood. 57 vette used this on an off road package.

    Yes nothing is touching there.
I have been trying to figure out how to make adjustable height for adding carb spacers for more to play so to speak.

Going under the stock hood with the back jacked up and boy do I mean jacked up Ha Ha.
The car is just a race car and it will be removed when not racing.

That's a pretty tall order. Considering that the pans are relatively easy to make, I think I would just make two pans. get what you are saying though, you may want to experiment with spacer combinations of differing heights, and for any a-b-a track testing to be meaningful, all combos would have to be run with trays. I just cant see a simple way to make an adjustable tray with your set-up.
How much space do you have between the front carb and the hood with the hood jacked up? If you only have space for a 1" spacer, then I would just make a second pan with a 1" shorter step at the back.

can you figure out a way to make a tray where you could make up the difference with different height foam seals, rather than the tray itself?

That was the way I was leaning. Maybe make the rear part attach to the car then the pan can move up or down with less Hill Billy engineering.

You could put a sheet metal/cardboard/whatever china wall around the perimeter of the tray. Maybe 2-4 inches tall. Then sticky some tall foam on the underside of the hood. Give them a good over lap so that the foam is on the inside of the tray walls no matter how high you adjust the rear of the hood. Once you've tested and found the height that works, finalize to your liking.-rick

There's an idea didn't think about putting the foam on the hood.
Lord knows it needs some on the hood latch.
I am kinda getting a soft spot for this car.

    No I never finished it.
This was as far as I got.
I was wanting to get the carb spacers done first and things just got away from me.

I know how that goes. Went to Walmart to get glue to try and get my foam on. Fucking place and only two checkers open and all the self check outs were 15 deep.
