I am looking for information on a Popp racing engine. A 4 cylinder shaft driven SOHC motor from the 30's or 40's. I know they were used in midget racers. There are some pictures online of one that is in the Speedway Museum. Does anyone know anything about these? Or have any idea where I can find out more about them? Thanks, Will
Wow this thing is sexy !!!!! To bad there is a lot of modern ls1 stuff when you googlate popp. This thing is purrty!
That thing sure is a beauty! Have no idea where to find one... or even info on one. But I have seen those carbs before... https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/building-a-new-winfield.1210325/
Always thought that the Crosley engine was based more on the Bentley 4 cylinder design, but I wonder if old man Crosley looked at the Popp and thought, "Hmmmm, I bet I could..."
Marty Himes in Bay Shore would know. He has that museum off Brook Avenue. Have no idea if it is open or how Marty is doing lately.
That engine is pure automotive high class jewelry, that is proof that long ago, designers and engineers really paid attention to detail on all levels!
