A chopped and channelled 'ugly duckling'. Now I've seen everything.

It takes a large amount of skill to make a 2CV look cool... and Mika has three times that amount.

 

How thin is the body on a 2cv ?

C est quoi l epaisseur de tole sur une 2 pattes ? Je n en ai jamais soudé, mais ca doit etre a peine plus epais qu une boite de William Saurin ..

 

yes it is really very fine metal ,william saurin " lol "
it's 6/10ths of a millimeter ... 0.02 inch

 

So, roughly 3 gum wrappers thick.

 

0.58mm is a standard thickness for steel roofing etc. here. It works easily on site, in the tin snips and pop rivets sort of idiom.

In fact it's what a large part of the local urban fabric is made of:

Thanks for sharing your incredible craftsmanship with us! Your fabrication skills are inspiring. I really enjoy seeing metal work like this.
The use of the laser transit is an excellent idea for keeping everything aligned.
In my opinion this is exactly what hotrodding is all about, improving your car to suit your own desires within the parameters set by your own skills and the laws you operate under. Of course you have to stretch the laws as much as you can!
Keep cranking on it and keep posting. I am now subscribed!

Great metal work! what engine and drivetrain will it have? I saw you mentioned that you cannot change the motor?

maybe a turbocharger? port the cylinder head (s) ?

Hey Mika, while you're on it, and because you know how, are you going to thin off the c-puillar ? (rear pillar) ? now the car is so well chopped, that part looks heavy.
Or is there somrething special planned already for there ?

Awesome thread,looks great ! Thanks to the mods for letting a non tradional car build continue on the HAMB. You sir,have a bright future in car building.

 

Whatever the type, I enjoy watching you guys build or rebuild in metal. Your craftsman ship so far on your new chassis looks top notch to me. I am a creative kind of person but not in metal. I envy you guys that can cut and weld a chassis up like this. Hope to be able to follow your project here.
