Geez.... this has been beaten to death over here. Do a search and you'll see every imaginable opinion...

BTW... I use POR-15... for over 15 years.

search por 15 threads = Thirty some threads!

search por 15 posts = Twenty some PAGES!

That said, I've had such good luck with por, I would never try anything else, FOR PAINTING OVER RUST, following their instructions.

    I've used both.

    I prefer the Rust Bullet.

And what advantage does "rust bullet" have? I am curious as I have not heard of it

I've used POR-15 for years and the only problem I've ever had was having it peel off. That was probably my fault the metal was new and too slick for it to stick to.
As far as top coating, POR-15 fades really badly in a short time (at least the black does). I bought a can of 'Rust Encapsulator' (gay name) from Eastwood to try out but haven't got around to it yet. There is an article on Eastwood's site from Auto Restorer Magazine that compares the Rust Encapsulator to POR-15. It was convincing enough for me to give it a shot (plus it was 25% off when I bought it).
Could be the same stuff in a different can for all I know. This is the first time I've heard of Rust Bullet (kind of a gay name too).

I would not use a product designed to "encapsulate" rust when you are top coating rust-free or new Steel-use a quality Epoxy, it IS the Industry standard, and in the same neighborhood for cost as POR or eastwood's-properly applied, it will stick to clean Steel and NOT peel or flake, and as my Body Shop Manager friend says "it's dries as hard as a Hocky Puck"-it won't shrink, it won't craze, it simply works-
