10/19/2016 Yes, I think they did have a black ring. You can see it around the perimeter of the steel rim. The rims were candy apple green. I am sure they were Port-A_ Walls as I couldn't afford white wall tires back then. The front tires were 5:60x15 and the rears were 8:20x15. I remember driving from MA to WI when someone motioned to me to pull me over to tell me my tires were wobbling. It was the white walls flapping. I still have the car but the tires and WW's are history. However, I see they are available on Ebay.
Im not versed at all in the subject but is there a reason why dont people glue them to the tire? seems like anything would be better than nothing
Could the OP be interested in port-a-walls for nostalgia sake? (Like some people use a swamp cooler, or keep a car hop tray around?) that maybe might make sense.
Port-a-walls are like parts from Almquist, Spark-O-Matic, Edmunds, etc. Just because some of it still exists, people will use it/them on a car today. 50 years ago, not so much ...
No, it's more like when we said "Burn" when we were youngsters. Someone flings an Insult and you say "Damn! Nice burn."
