First off let me say MAN I MISSED THE HAMB! well last post i had on here i was on my way to Naval Basic training,, im glad i got that shit over with. anyways im down here in Port Hueneme CA, going to the SeaBee construction mechanics A-school. Its a blast getting to wrench in the labs is great. Anyways im down here and all i can think about is getting my lincoln done for the summer. by the way anyone know what it would take to get the hood louverd? alright well i know the NHRA event is going on this next weekend, i signed up to do some "security" on the track, alot of us got the chance to go down there. but i figure ill get some beer smell some rubber, have a good time. is anything going on this weekend in the LA, Oxnard area?
Congratulations Man, Just got out of the service about a year ago. 1 tip(for the first year): Lay low, keep your mouth shut, show Strength but not obnoxiousness. Be strong man and be careful. Keep your ass out of the DIRTY POOTNANNY. ha
Listen from this Old Chief, you have 2 ears, 2 eyes and 1 mouth. If you use them in just proportion you will fare well. BTW "UT's" like being called Urinal Technicians. <grin>
hey, thanks Cheif. Ill keep all that in mind especialy the UT bit! haha. yeah, no one likes the guy that uses his mouth and forgets about his ears.
Port Hue Enema is a great place! not too far from Oxnard or at least it flows into it. If you ever get a chance, go check out silverstrand, the jetty/ship makes some real nice waves to surf. I bet you can find all kinds of shops in the area that would do your hood. Oh yeah, Ventura is pretty nice too.
I am in Louisiana, but my wife happens to be in Oxnard at the moment visiting our daughter and son in law. Both are in the Navy and stationed at Port Hueneme and live in Oxnard. John is a SeaBee himself. They love it out there, but will be transferring back to San Diego in a few months.
I rebuilt a 327 for my buddys 61 Corvette in that auto shop. They used to call it the Hobby shop. We wore out a few pinball machines in the ghedunk at lunch time. (I never knew how to spell it.) If you like warm showers and flush toilets, I wouldn't get too mouthy with the UTs. The Marines liked us when they got back from the jungle. Lots of great memories from the little time that I was there. I'd love to go back and have another look.
My ship was down there last fall. I vaguely remember the walk from chiefs hut to bowling alley back to the ship. Since you went seabee not fleet I won't give ya shit about being a squid. Take easy and do your job with no attitude and you will do fine.
I think Kiwi Kev has a louvre machine in ventura. By the way I did search and rescue at channel Islands for 3 years
i was stationed in point mugu right down the street from you.got out 3 years ago. another piece of advice: the cops dont care youre in the navy so be carefull, cus they will write you a ticket, and they will arrest your ass! good luck and have fun!
Welcome to the area, don't forget you are really close to the PrimerNational venue, Ventura Fairgrounds. Once the roundy-round season gets cranked up you can see some great sprint car, midget and other circle track racing. Lots of HAMB people in the area.
I'm an ex-squid and was born in Port Hueneme, raised in Oxnard, and now live in Ventura. When it comes time for fab work, go see Keith at Ken's Muffler on Wooley Rd. near Patterson - he knows his stuff. Well, go see him if you don't have somebody else who can help you out.
Aaahh a sea bee huh? just a squid trying to do my job good luck at school I had a blast at mine learning the same stuff. My school was more focus on explosives and land mine warfare but basically same job with alot more excitement. You have any questions pm me I'll help you out been in three years and about to go on deployment number 2.Like I said any questions keep me in mind I'll answer them or call a buddy who was a seabee and ask him. United States Marine Corps. Combat Engineer with Co."C" 6th ESB.Good Luck Semper Fi squid!!! I had do throw that in ha ha,Paul
Q: What does a Marine have in common with a banana? A: They're both green in color - until they hit the beach, when they turn YELLOW! One of my best buds is a jarhead - we give each other so much crap that some people think we're going to come to blows. It's all in fun though - he'd kill me in a heartbeat if it wasn't.
I have great memories of the hobby shop. I think everyone on the base had a modified car in 1967 ... I remember drawing tools with the ring of "tool chits" they gave you when you signed in, & you had to work outside on an asphalt parking space until they got to know you. Port Huenume was home port for the world's only guided missile seaplane tender, the USS Norton Sound (AVM 1), and I had the pleasure of being a Boilerman on it's 38 year old plant.
