Just finished the exhaust on my 53 Buick with a 455 motor, Used a set of Porters, Mounted them close to headers & done in 2" all the way back to a set of Stainless tips, Beautiful job done on exhaust system but there Super Quiet with out any Rap to them what so ever ? Do these mufflers need to get some mile on them before they get that Melow rap I listened to on website ? I figured this 455 would Bark like Crazy with the dual Porters but nothing ? Any info would be Appreciated !!
    Thanks Perk

    No H pipe !!

  4. 2" sounds quite small to me. Pretty sure pipes that small would result in a somewhat mellow sound.

  5. you could pm "Porter Man" on here, but i think it might be the porters need to be away from the headers.

I think it should be 2 1/2 inch pipe and mufflers for an engine of that size.

Everything I read & was told is the closer to header the better the sound and the smaller diameter makes for a better sound, I was told by Porter to keep close as possible to header, 2" for 4 cylinders seems like a decent size per side ??

I hope they break in for you and you get the sound you were looking for. I would've suggested 2 1/2 in. pipe as well for that big an engine. Let me know what happens.
