4" body will have deeper tone than 3" body, but may have more cruising drone. Also the longer the body is the quieter it will be. This is pretty standard info for gl*** packs, so it should also apply to the PORTERS. If you don't find a size you need in the PORTERS, I'm sure we can help you at CHERRYBOMB ; ) Also if you are looking for different look into our VORTEX. Pretty mellow inside(unless on the throttle hard), no drone, creates more torque and out flows our other mufflers.
5.0 is a late model or European term, I think 302 would work fine here. And mufflers are just like everything else....driving down the road they all sound good!
Go with the Porters they are perfect for your ride. OF course I am biased as I am a dealer but still, get some Porters.
I just put a pair gl*** packs on my F100 300 I6 love the sound it had a dynomax muffler sounded like ****
I used Flowmasters on the Ranch Wagon,,5.0 and they sound great. I prefer the sound of the FM's over the gl*** packs,,personal preference. HRP
I like my 40 series Flowmasters, personally. Sound clip in the youtube link in my signature. How about Magnaflows? They have a great sound, and not everyone is running them.
Porter's have been ordered. Going with 2.25" inlet/outlet with 4" body. Should be here on Wednesday and installed on Thursday! Totally stoked! Thanks for all the input & feed back!
Mikemo, I put Brockman Mellowtones on my Dad's '32 a few years ago and LOVE them. I ran Cherry Bombs on my A Tudor and loved 'em. However, Porters have become my new favorite, so BLVD_R I know you'll be happy with your purchase.
Pick up a PORTER sometime and feel the heft to it. It's a muffler that will last and last. The sound is the very best of all the choices out there and it's a TRADITIONAL sound just like this message board.
Ditto. I have a friend with a mild 289 fairlane, sounds absolutely killer with spintechs. no flowmaster. Your converse are not shop shoes. Buy boots.
Yep, Flowmasters are the SBC's of mufflers- cheap and BORING Spintechs do sound pretty good- and I have a set of ****** Aerochambers I'm getting ready to try. Absolute best sounding mufflers I ever had was a set of 2-1/2" Golden Rams on my '69 Mach1 in the early 70's- man, did that sound guuuuud...
Flowmaster has a muffler called HP2 which its a redesign version of an old school gl*** pack , but much deeper tone and not a "pop corn" sound like a gl*** pack . Sounds great outside , but nice and claim in the interior for those long trips. Also it has NO packing material , so it will never blow out and it's stainless steel ! Sound like a real hot rod on '32s , '40 fords etc....
Never work Porters will cause your water pump to leak. Flowmasters have become the norm for modern builds, a porter will work or a gl*** pack or some other steel pack, ID is important to performance but from your post it sounds like sound is more important than performance to you.
I realize this is an old thread but it popped up in my search so what the h-e-double hockey sticks, I'll rejuvenate it. I saw someone above my post ask about the difference between Porters and Brockmans. That's what I'm trying to decide between myself. What makes the porters worth $90/ea. when the Brockmans (steelpack of course) are less than $90/pr.? If the porters sound that much better I'll go with them but if they sound the same then Brockmans it is.
I'm a Brockman's fan, have been for over 25 years. What I particularly like is that you can get them with gl*** packing, steel, or no packing. Brock will make them to order. He also can make them in different lengths to "tune in" the sound for you. The real long ones will mellow out even a big block. Short ones for maximum bark and burble.
I've got 30" long 2" I/O gl***packs on my '68 Dodge D100 pickup with a 318. It is THE best-sounding vehicle I have. Very mellow tone, and always turns heads as I drive by. The truck is in-process, so it's not the prettiest one around, but it sure is the best-sounding truck around here.
