Has anyone heard of a car club called the Bench Racers out of Portland Oregon? Is it still active? Any information on the group? Any current members on the HAMB? I got these items (a plaque, a jacket and a golf type shirt that I didn't photograph) from a long time older friend who passed away a few years back and was just wondering about them.
I've seen a lot of bench racing in my time but never heard of a car club with the name. Maybe @Pist-n-Broke or @DDDenny can recall. Both are well qualified bench racers.
I should know, I have seen those jackets. Billy, I see you put away Saint Buford T. Justice, until the next holiday season.
Yeah, my wife will leave the trees up for another few weeks, but I figured it was time to move on. This pic popped up on my phone the other day, taken a few years back on Christmas eve. Reminds me of the line from Christmas Story "That damn Olds would freeze up on the equator! "
I have lived in the Vancouver, Wa. / Portland, Or. area all of my life and know most all of the local clubs. I have never heard of them, probably a few guys that sat around and B.S.'d cars and decided to get jackets and plaques made.
I recognize the jackets from seeing them at the Portland Swap Meet and Portland Roadster Show over the years. No actual names come to mind.
Totally agree! I even thought about making an offer on that plate for a couple "friends" of mine. Fastest benchers I know.
Man @Bandit Billy I had to enlarge your new avatar to get a better look.... at first glance I thought i was looking at Cousin Eddie!
Thanks for the responses. It's interesting that somebody designed a pretty cool looking logo for a casual group of friends/like minded guys and went thtough some effort putting together merchandise.
I'm thinking that he nailed it spot on. I'm thinking that I saw someone with one of those Jackets at the Portland Roadster show in the past and that may have been when it was over in the the Convention center. A group of guys who hung out and bench raced having a bit of fun with it.
