Here's one of interest at PTW cruise. This happened right by my '39 just minutes after I parked it! A 2nd car parked behind me luckily, and then this gorgeous '32 Ford coupe tried to back in behind him and got too close. His buddies told him to pull out and try a 2nd shot at it, but he turned his wheels toward the '57 Chevy, and began to scrape his fender! Then he panicked when people began yelling to stop and gassed it hard. Couldn't believe my eyes as I watched it happen!
He folded that fender right up against the hood side, bent the frame rail, tore the hubcap off, and tore his door handle off too! A little scrape on his rear fender too. I was thinking how lucky it was there was a nice '57 behind me instead of my car getting this! The '57 actually looked like very little damage. Bumper tweaked, trim on the back of the fin damaged, and lower side trim popped loose. I got my tools out and we removed the bent trim clip, then reinstalled it in the trim and secured it back to his '57 so it wouldn't fall off on his trip home.
The '57 that got it is behind me in this picture:

No, I believe it had a vintage Oregon plate. Had a period looking SBC engine in it.

  7. Yeah that was a close call for your Chevy. I had seen you parked down there when I walked to get in line for registration. Heard the accident from the line.

Interesting fact too, for the long time Portland Transmission attendees that have been going for years, if you recall years ago where a Corvette got hit when a car was started in gear, owner of the vette is the same guy as the 32 from what I heard from some buddies that know the owner better.

I was looking for your chevy, I didn't want to walk down there and gape at the mishap so I kinda steered clear (no pun intended). These things happen. I remember a few years back a fellow took pout a few cars when his throttle stuck and he panicked. Tough on all parties involved.

    Say it aint so.

I was across the street talking to Marty when I heard the carnage. I thought it might have involved my Chevy and was relieved to see it wasn't.

No kidding, that would have put a damper on the day. I saw you line up around 5:30 but when I wlaked down there I didn't see you.

We have lost some talent lately. That is for sure

20250510_075434.jpg @Bandit Billy , great to meet you. Thanks for posting all the photos. I was taking photos with the plan to post but you took photos of most of the cars I did and from the same angle. You've got a great aptitude for composition. I'll add just a few. I should have taken a photo of Lonnie Gilbertson's cyclecars, but they are in the background of the photo of Marty. If I get them in order check out the dash in the '37 Chevy. At Russ's Memorial I too was surprised to see the Jade Idol. After a reminder I recalled that Russ went to Cali to work for Gene. The slide show had a photo of Russ flat towing the Jade Idol to a show with his '56 Nomad.

Guess we passed each other Bill! I walked up and saw your car, but two empty lawn chairs behind it. Saw it again at Russ's memorial, but didn't see you until I was walking to my car and you were leaving.

I'm sorry I missed saying hi to you guys. I saw a couple of you from across the way and got lost in the noise. It was a good turnout this year.

Yeah, that car with the plexi hood has a straight 6 with a Wayne head and three carbs you can make out in the picture. No creature comforts, pure hot rod.

Wild turn out. I thought it was going to be overcast, I ended up with a sunburn and a bit of heat stroke by the time I got home. In retrospect I should have put the top up on my car. PNW'ers, we aren't used to sunshine.

The show was spectacular! I arrived a little after 6 and followed a group from St Helens in.

Then was led to park in front of the entrance way to the parking lot of PTW and across from where Marty and his cars were stationed.

I walked right past that truck, I didn't know that was yours. I have never met you Spooky. I stopped in at All American a week or so ago and talked to Todd. I need to make it a point next time I am out that way to come meet you. I was going to ask Todd if Spooky was around, but I didn't want him to think I was nuts.

I think there were at least 9 HAMB cars there, probably more that I didn't know about (like yours).

I Wish I had a video of this dragster running.

That Allison 12 cylinder could be heard and felt for blocks. I was sitting about 100 yards away and the ground was shaking. And if you want to give me crap for bringing a chair, try walking on pavement for hours with a collapsed L5-S1 vertebrae. Oddly the vibration from the dragster did feel good.

Last raced in 1968. Can you imagine flying a plane with a couple of these on the wings? Crap!

Caught myself trying to find traces of green paint from the “Green Monster” days. Looked like a fun ride.
