Before I order a Posies In-Da-Dirt front end and rear SuperSlide, reverse eye, transverse spring, to lower my ’47 I thought I would see what everyone’s take is on these. Did you use the spring packs as they came or did you take any leaves out? I think my car sits a little high, even for a stocker, but if get the advertised 5” drop in front, that should barely tuck the sidewall tread of my 6.0x16 Firestones into the fender, a little. SO I was thinking about pulling a spring out of each pack. I am also going to order their dropped steering arms and rear spring shackles as well. Also, I can see dropping down the front tires a size or two soon. If I get time tonight, I will try and photoshop a picture to the "advertised" amount. Any advice is appreciated!
I can't help you on the super slide, but I can say that is a damn fine looking shiny black old Ford. -Abone.
One thing though...those 46-48 chassis have a pretty deep drop in the crossmember spring mount. Any chance you could raise it up a bit for some free lowness? Definitely something you would want to do with the front clip off... -Abone
Here is a decent thread. Technical - Dropping original 46-48 ford front crossmember | The H.A.M.B. -Abone.
Well , I have known Dutch, as he is called AKA Posie- Ken Fenical since I was a small kid. I grew up with his kids. His stuff is nice. His daughter I think still runs the spring shop. I run a chrome super slid spring on my coupe, for over ten years now. Plenty of street and drag race abuse, no problems.
If you get 5” of drop in the front, a 600 tire will probably rub the fender. A 5.50 or maybe even 500 would be better. And, why would you need dropped steering arms if you aren’t dropping the axle too?
I have super sliders in my 57 pickup, it moves pretty freely thanks to the slider buttons but I'm sure the springs aren't as stiff as stock springs either. I would recommend installing the springs as is first then if you still feel you need to remove a spring do it later after everything has settled. You might find yourself hitting the bump stops by removing springs first.
I have no doubt about the quality of their parts, I was wondering about the install and what to expect. As in, is it really 5" or does it settle to 6" kinda stuff.
I think you very well may be correct. The Posies kit comes with a 4" dropped axle, I believe its a Super Bell.
Using a 6' ruler, in the rain, the best I could tell this is about 5" lower in front and about 2-1/2" in the rear. It's nothing scientific or anything to base decisions on, but a little fun on a rainy Friday night with a margarita. It does make me want to do a more accurate one!
