4 leaf speedway super glide front leaf spring. anyone using one? how do they compare to a posies? smooth? sit too high?
Hey do not know about speedways but I have a Posies on my 32 and it changed the ride 10 fold to the good!! Awesome spring, pick it up myself and got a tour of the shop to boot!! Pete
Posies is still the original and IMO the best, but for the money the Speedway isn't too bad. They do the job and cost a little less. Don
I have Posie SS springs in my '39 ly coupe and the ride is excellent. I had the same experience, I picked up the springs at their place and got the complete shop tour, very cool shop indeed.
Where's the Speedway spring made? I'm sure it's just me but some thing about cheap-o Chinese copies just chap my ass. I don't know where Speedy's springs come from, but Posie's keep Americans employed. Like I said, that most likely don't matter to any one but me though.
i see other places also selling the super glide. im trying to go down lower. i know posies is a good ride i have one in another car and it sits right. the axle set up im buying comes with a 4 leaf super glide. i guess ill give it a try. 4 leaves dosent give alot to play with as far as removing a spring.
Posies is always my first choice. The best springs made! I agree with 48 Chubby on the whole USA thing too.
Posies super slide going in the 1946 right now- I'll post on any improvement- I was sold the incorrect shackles so waiting on them- also the Panhard Bar is in the way and I am relocating it- no bolt on I purchase ever seems to be easy-
Isn't Hummelstown cool!! Neat old town and Posies neat old shop!! It,s near Hershey, so its a good excuse to take a ride up(about 60 miles)thru amish country and back(stop at Micheal's bakery on 896 for sticky buns right out of the oven)If you like sticky buns, nuts and raisins,do not get them their!! You.ll be in the Bettie Ford clinic in no time!! Pete
Just had to chime in on this one! If a laminated spring pack, just like Henry made is chambered correctly , prepared with tapered ends & carries the weight that was intended then they work very well! When I do a chassis I get the spring made & set for the required performance & ride characteristics, generic springs whoever makes them are in so many occasions used because they fit the opening between the spring perches! Henry springs are my first choice, second are the ones I get made to do the job, my customers give me exceptional critique on ride & handling which is always favorable! Aesthetically I believe that transverse springs with the buttons formed on the ends of the leaves is not a good look if looks are important!
I built a rig to test springs. I have a load sell that I put on top of the spring and then I load the spring with a hyd. cyl. A plot of load vs. defl. is usefull as the spring rate and the deflection for a given load is obtained. I just did a spring for a friend. He was setting up his chassis and was concerned how much the spring would deflect. I predicted very closely his ride heigth. Over the years, I have tested any spring I could get my hands on. The stock springs were always the lower rate. The Posies,TCI, etc multi leaf springs were a lot stiffer. The monoleaf springs were three times the stifness of stock springs. Anybody want to send me a spring? I will test it. A quick spring guide is this. A spring with little arch will always ride stiff. If the spring only deflects a little with it's load, it has can't be made to ride soft. Putting enough load on it to ride soft will have it bent backwards. I would compair the arches of the Posie's and the Speedway to predict the ride quality. They may still be too stiff but a flat spring has no chance.
They are made by Holt spring in Omaha... I have a friend who works there. They make real good stuff and will make custom springs too!
Based on my experience replacing leaf springs on my Chevy 3100 (2nd Gen) - Speedway resells Posies products. In fact, the fellas at Posies directed me to Speedway since Posies did not have my spring in stock and SW did. Indecently, the improved ride these leafs provide my solid axle pickup exceeded my expectations.
Speedway is now selling Posies springs. You get free shipping at Speedway. I bought my front from Posies because Speedway did not carry the one I needed. The rear spring from Speedway was a Posies with free shipping and I got it on a discount day. Saved almost a hundred bucks. I will say Posies has better service. Have their springs in my roadster and the ride is great. Will see how the coupe is when finished. Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
IMHO, as mentioned, find out where Speedway springs are made. If they tell you China or they do not know.....beware!
The Last spring I bought from Speedway ended up being a Posies. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Mine was a Posies from Speedway. I called and made sure before buying. Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
The above photo from their catalog clearly shows Speedway lists Posies Super Slide springs, and online the listings call that out too. I would think Ken Fenical might have something to say about it if Speedway was using his trade name inappropriately. Also, could you elaborate on what was inferior about Speedway’s service? Saving almost $100 and getting free shipping sounds pretty good to me.
Nothing much, just took longer to get the spring from Speedway than from Posies direct. Worth the wait for the cost difference. Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
I'm using one of Posie's "Dual Flex" 2 leaf springs, his version of a mono-leaf spring, on my '32 Highboy and am very pleased with the ride. It dropped the front another inch over the stock Posies multi leaf which was on my car originally. Also, which shocks you use makes a big difference.
I wanted to ad something about Speedway. I use them all the time, but I recently bought a front end damper from them. The VW one that SoCal and others sell. The shipping from Speedway was almost $17.00 . The part was the best price for the item. So I go check on Ebay and I get the same item off of Ebay from Speedway same price and shipping only $6. and change. I talked with a Speedway agent and asked why, He basically said the shipping costs are what they are. Strange policy indeed. Note! The damper seems to be good quality, but the threaded end was metric. No so on the SoCal that I have purchased in the past.
