I think you should replace the radiator cap with an aeolipyle so you know if the thing overheats; you never know when the idiot lantern might be out of kerosene.

Why paint, just put a thin sheet of stainless on there and brush it, scuff it, engine-turn it, whatever.
i like the looks of the 56 merc dash, was debating bout putting a 55 or 56 chevy bel air in my 52 shoebox but i dont know now after seeing that

This is my 1946 Chevrolet 1/2 ton truck dash in my 1946 Chevrolet 1/2 ton truck. Trust me, I was as shocked as you the speedometer only went to 100 mph with the kinda h.p. that 216 is puttin' out.
Here is a picture of my dash. It's a 56 Ford dash that I put in my 60 Tbird. Not quite done yet. I filled in all the holes but left the radio knob holes. The knob on the left is a pull type ignition switch and the knob on the right is the light switch. The aluminum gauge panel is a speed limit sign I had laying around. I polished up to get the scratches out. It was a lot of work getting it to fit but it was worth it.
