If you don't have a real Winfield Carb sign that's OK. (this one's not for sale) Please post Real old speed equipment signs I know there are guys with good stuff here AND a lot of signs most here have never seen. Not all 'Barn finds' have wheels
I have been searching for a cool sign for a couple years and it seems like I never find the ones that don't require me to sell my soul in order to obtain it. Very cool Winfield sign.
One of the pioneers of the use of spoked motorcycle wheels on dragsters was Lyle Fisher. He was one of the members of the famous Fisher & Greth Speed Sport Roadster team. Many years ago I was able to puchase a sign from the new owner of Lyle Fisher's shop. You will notice that the pictured car is a front engine roadster. This is a car that the team actually built, then immediately wrecked. The sign is now in a private collection, but here is a photo of that "one-of-a-kind-sign". As a bonus, I discovered that the sign had been painted on top of another rare old sign, left over from the '50s, when the Tucson Timing Association hosted drag races on the Air Force Base in Tucson . We produced a replica of that sign also. Incidentally, Red Greth, the other member, is still racing today with a couple newer versions of the rear engined roadster, and also a '70 Cuda nostalgia funny car. At the time I bought this sign, I also bought the body from the Speed Sport 2 roadster. I'm glad to say, that body found it's way back into Red's hands.
I just put this old drive in movie theater sign up for the low low price of FREE in the classifieds if anyone needs one...
I'd LOVE to have that in my backyard but I think Scott would kill me if I asked him to fetch it for me......... "I know we just got back from Philly picking up Rusty Olds but do you think we could head to Indy now to pick up this old sign?"
Nice sign Bluto! I think Bobby Green has a Winfield Carb' display, maybe he will post a pic. I don't have any speed equip' signs but I have a couple of speed shop signs, Blairs........ And an old NHRA member track sign, took it down at LACR a long time ago.......
I'm kinda partnered up with a guy that makes signs like these.....I do all the neon patterns and vinyl work, he does all the tinwork.....then another guy bends up the neon and installs.... I dig that Blairs sign Kev!
Please lets keep this to Speed Equipment (shops count) There have been plenty of Gas Station stuff here over the years. What I really want to do is get folks to save real racing stuff/history Yup Kev I think Bobby offered me $50 for the Winfield sign.Maybe even $75 Hoping I was as stupid as I look. I was sitting here thinking about the Lion's sign that sat in front or our shops in Signal Hill. I sure hope Mert or Richard took it home. Stuff just gets lost
Doesn't Neal East who used to own the Doane Spencer 32 have the Miller sign off the old Miller Race Car building in L.A.
I think I remember Neal East had an automotive book store somewhere, Ohio maybe. I believe he had the Miller sign right in the store. Is this familiar to anyone else?
Thanks for the pix. I aploigse in advance for hi-jacking your thread but I'v had an off and on research project going on Ed, and brother Bud Winfield. Not much on the net that I could find. Anyone have a link to a bio page?
Nice signs Kev! I have the Blairs Speed Shop Chaparral trailer that Dale Pulde bought new in 73. Still all lettered up with the Blairs stuff.
