Note his tow car.
Duane got in the "2" club last year and his son Gary is going for it this year.

Had an unexpected treat today - one of my coworkers stumbled across a couple pics of his "Racing Days" circa 1966/67. He was so excited because he "almost" got the wheels up on his Chevy. Note the faux exhaust which was required back then for some reason, AND the lack of a rollcage in his CONVERTIBLE!
The other pic is of him in thinner/trimmer days. Great pics everyone, thanks for sharing.

a friend of mine says he read an interview with willie one time (just to authenticate this and prove that it's actually true...) where he said he always was holding on to the door 'cause that's the only way he could keep from bouncing around so bad that he would have lost control. doesn't sound too believable to me; even back then the drivers were strapped in pretty tight.

...but that's what i heard.

here's one......I'm biased, though....

 

Out of all the cool photos in this thread, Ryan picked this wonderful picture to illustrate his blog on JJ. Not everyone here will know that it's a HRM cover photo from '56 or so, and that the guy doing the welding is Tom Medley. He's building an AV8 coupe, and it has perfect period details: flathead with a 3-jug and heads, Firestone ribs, Kelseys, and the tube shocks look to be Gabriels. I'm a little surprised that it doesn't have a dropped axle.

I met Mr Medley at a show a few years ago, and asked him if this coupe was ever finished. He said that it was, but I never saw pictures of it as a completed car. Anybody else familiar with it?
